MY ASTRO JOURNEY

“The atomic reality . . . reveals a connection between individual objects that only be described as wholeness.”  – Peter Ernst Fischer

My name is Seeta Persaud. I’ve been practicing DSLR photography for over a decade.  I started out taking photos exclusively of local wildlife, particularly raptors and migratory birds. Over the years, I’ve done landscapes, events, and family portraits.  I also have my Part 107 license and dabble in drone videography and aerial photography.

My love of photography transformed my passion for astronomy into deep space astrophotography in 2021. All of my astrophotos are taken from my backyard in Bortle 6 skies.  Since 2021 my astrophotography has evolved from deep sky objects, planetary, aurora and solar.  I was fortunate to observe and capture the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 (again, right from my backyard).  With solar maximum in high gear, I’ve been able to view the northern lights from my yard and enjoy incredible, breathtaking views of our nearest star, the Sun, using a hydrogen-alpha scope.

Exploring the deep sky fills me with wonder and a sense of connectedness to  something greater than the sum of its parts.  Astronomy and astrophotography teach us patience, humility, and the limitations of the human perspective.  With technological aides  we can see what the human eyes cannot observe and venture millions of light years away to catch a glimpse of the cosmic ocean.

My field assistant, a pittie mix, is always by my side capturing and processing data.  He has his own blog on this site as well: Cloudy Chronicles. He joined my side more than 5 years ago when he was adopted from the SPCA.  He’s now 12 years old and still full of puppy energy despite struggling with mobility issues these days. In order to protect his joints and maintain his qualify of life, I built this motorized stairlift for him last year.  We named it the “Polar Express.”  My journey through the cosmos is forever linked with him by my side.

Join me, and my field assistant, on my journey through visual astronomy and astrophotography as I explore our solar system and deep sky objects.

For more earthly mysteries, my nature, wildlife and landscape photography can be found at spersaud.smugmug.com.  While I haven’t updated that site in a while, it showcases some of overall work.

I’m also a licensed amateur radio operator with an interest in the American Radio Relay League’s National Traffic System and international Morse Code.  My call sign is KE2EWA.  If you’re a licensed ham radio operator, you might catch me on the airwaves.

As we say on the air, 73 de KE2EWA.
